The Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club, Stratford on Avon.
We arrived at this very imposing hotel via a long drive between large trees. We entered the hotel and waited at reception. We had to wait rather a long time at reception. An extra member of staff on reception would have been helpful.
Our room was very light and airy. The bathroom was a good size with very efficient down lights.
Plenty of nice toiletries were supplied for our use.
There was supposed to be a bottle of chilled wine in our room on arrival but alas there was none!
We called reception and they told us we would have to come down and fetch the bottle ourselves!!
When I did go to the bar for the wine they didn't know which type I was supposed to have.More time wasted sorting this out.
We had a two course meal as part our deal and that was adequate. The dining room was very nice with plenty of space.
The buffet breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The coffee was especially nice.
We had use of the spa and this was okay apart from some of the jacuzzis were not operating.
Overall we had a lovely time but the management need to put on extra staff.
The staff were friendly enough but were put under pressure.
I would not stay here again only because we have visited this area and would like to go elsewhere.
Just don't eat there!
The hotel itself was very nice, nice gardens, but food was ridiculously expensive, ie fish and chips on bar menu was over 19. Soda water from gas outlet was 3.50 and the cost of a beer and single spirit and soda was over 14! Breakfast was self catering and food was not fresh or hot after 9. We were supposed to have a meal on first night, but got the cheaper meal instead, and prosecco in our room never arrived. After complaining we got a credit for drinks we had paid for.
Poor customer service
Booked on a deal with dinner for 2 included. It was not made clear that this was for 2 courses. Service in restaurant was poor. The offer included a bottle of fizz in room which was not there. We had to ask at the bar and asked to prove which offer we were on when a simple call to reception would have been much more customer friendly. Was told we could have the wine at table with meal but then told off by head waiter for doing this.
The buffet breakfast left a lot to be desired. No service at all
Overnight stay was fine.
We had a lovely duplex suit for our last minute overnight stay with our dog, the space was very clean comfortable, well laid out and more than we needed. Sadly we arrived at dusk in the rain, our accommodation was a distance from reception and the car park, very limited lighting and even less signage to Romeo which is one of maybe 10 apartments behind the spa. Dinner was ok and delivered in a timely manner, the menu and service does not reflect the name or style of the hotel and its past reputation. Equally breakfast was totally self service from a selection of stations, I ve never experienced pump pot coffee other than at business meetings. It was disappointing based on historic stays. The restaurant manager was very good at dinner.

Nice Hotel and grounds
Interesting old building and lovely grounds / golf course. Room was comfortable but bathroom was small and dated.
The spa and pool were nice but the guy on reception was brusque to the point of rudeness.
The staff in the hotel were helpful but the service at dinner was so slow it spoilt the whole evening unfortunately.
