Welcombe Hotel & Spa

GH, West Sussex, stayed: January 2025

Nice Location on land previously owned by William Shakespeare this is a well appointed Country House type of hotel with lovely gardens and a separate Golf club. The Spa was enjoyable and would have been excellent had all the facilities been working.
Room was OK - good on a wing of an extension with a view of a bank. Restaurant was nice with great service (Thanks) but a fairly limited menu - but no-one seemed to know what tariff we were supposed to be on but I managed to sort the misunderstandings out. Cost of wine was beyond extortionate I'm afraid which was self defeating as no one appeared to be sharing bottles- a shame because the food in the evening and at breakfast was of a good standard.
The Hotel is well organised and centrally situated for some very enjoyable visits and is about 1 mile outside Stratford.
Overall a good experience despite a few niggles - we'd go again

Good location

Anon, stayed: January 2025

The hotel is a bit tired but we had a good stay. Oddly there was no bottled water in our rooms. I questioned this and was told it was only provided to rooms of a higher quality. Had we asked they would have given us water - very odd in this day and age! Post Christmas it seemed bland. Candles or flowers on tables would have improved the ambiance - small gestures with a bigger impact.

When we reached our rooms there was no Prosecco as the deal had stated. We had to ask for it and prove it was part of our deal. We then were given it in the bar to take to our room.

The other interesting observation was re the spa. The pool and jacuzzi were excellent. On leaving all shampoo and conditioner containers were empty. I advised the pleasant guy on reception. He said that the lady supervisor had been called to a meeting so they wouldn t be filled until later. To me the obvious thing to have done would have been to ask the hotel (right next door) to supply some individual bottles (as supplied in rooms) until the containers could be refilled. We only discovered the problem when getting to the showers.

On the positive side the staff were friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed Welcombe Hotel and its wonderful location. However, we expected the staff to be more friendly and willing to provide the services we paid for.

Beautiful hotel is a gorgeous location. Very impressive building with a lot of original features

Lyn D, Staffordshire, stayed: December 2024

We had a one night stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was lovely, spacious, clean, welcoming. The only one thing was there was only a door connecting the next door room so we heard the next door visitors early morning the next day. The restaurant we couldn t fault. Food was very good. Staff very friendly and welcoming. The spa was very relaxing just needs updating loungers as most were broken. The outdoor pool was lovely too. Breakfast had lots of choice and was also delicious. Would definitely like to stay again if we are in the area.

Cosy and relaxing break

KT, Worcestershire, stayed: December 2024

We stayed for a night in the hotel and had a day in the spa too. It has a lovely cosy and welcoming atmosphere as you enter the hotel. We was given our room key by a nice receptionist and was very impressed with the room and distance from the restaurant and reception. We had a lovely man show us to our room and carry my friends bags. The waiter who bought us our wine poured it for us and was very polite. The dinner was really nice and the waitresses were very friendly. The nights sleep was comfortable and satisfactory. The breakfast had lots of choice and was an enjoyable experience.
The spa needs some tlc- worn out loungers and rusty handrails. Robes were very thin and soak up water easily leaving them cold and uncomfortable. Outside spa pool was cold. The changing rooms are very slippery and I slid on the tiles as they have no grip in the main area. The rest of the spa is lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would return.
