Slow service and extremely noisy

Suzanne D, Northamptonshire, stayed: September 2024

We found the service in the restaurant poor especially in regard to the length of time it took for both our afternoon tea and evening meal to arrive. Disappointed to not have fresh ground coffee available at breakfast.

The bedroom (333) was not available until 4 which is an hour later than we expected. The room was noisy due to the noise of the pumps for the sowers when being operated in adjoining and above/below rooms.

Poor noise insulation in walls. We could almost join in the telephone conversations happening with our neighbours.

However, worst of all was being consistently being woken up by disrespectful and inconsiderate guests who I believe were on a work event and partying in a nearby room and making frequent and loud noise in the corridor chasing each other and using foul language into the early hours of the morning.

Worst nights sleep in years.

Could be wonderful ....

NG, West Midlands, stayed: August 2024

On arrival this place is impressive, beautiful grounds. The hotel is a huge old building which looks beautiful but once inside the cleanliness and almost forgotten about theme starts to show. Areas of this hotel are lovely but very mirrors actually had writing and drawings on them in the dust from who knows when! Then there are areas that are just derelict with old tables shoved in the space. The fixtures and fittings are all tired. There's not enough staff to show you where to go those that are there are young and running around like headless chickens. There seemed to be a lack of mature staff giving direction. The room was up in the eaves, squeaking floorboards wherever you walked, the bathroom was huge but old, the hairdryer was one of.those old ones fixed to the wall with a tube that omitted heat!!! The room had far too much furniture in, the window sill had its own insect graveyard but everywhere else was clean. View was the bins. The Spa was dirty, untidy with many things out of action. Cups and towels lay strewn everywhere, the reception staff were bored and unhelpful when muttering information about where to change it was find your own way. Dinner was great but took an age, however they were very busy and short on staff. Bedroom at night was the hottest I've been in.but the 2 fans in the room on arrival should have hinted at what was to come. Breakfast was good but again the dust was shown in its full glory. The grounds still had litter and glassware from a wedding strewn about. It's such a shame as this could be a fabulous place with a professional cleaning company in residence, the spa needs everything repairing and new sunbeds as they nearly all have holes in them. Mature staff are needed as the youngsters are doing their best but need direction. The spa staff need some intense training on customer service and basic cleanliness of a spa!

Not the luxury weekend we had expected

Elizabeth, West Yorkshire, stayed: August 2024

This weekend was an expensive birthday gift from a relative costing just short of three hundred pounds for one night. On arrival the welcoming bottle of fizz in our very basic room was not waiting for us. We had on package forty pounds each towards our evening meal and had looked online and made our choices. Only to be informed that there was a very limited set menu for us as we were on a package. The meal was dissapointing and we felt very cheated. Breakfast was excellent noting to complain about there. We also felt that the staff not being in a uniform also let the hotel down.

Just don't eat there!

ML, Buckinghamshire, stayed: August 2024

The hotel itself was very nice, nice gardens, but food was ridiculously expensive, ie fish and chips on bar menu was over 19. Soda water from gas outlet was 3.50 and the cost of a beer and single spirit and soda was over 14! Breakfast was self catering and food was not fresh or hot after 9. We were supposed to have a meal on first night, but got the cheaper meal instead, and prosecco in our room never arrived. After complaining we got a credit for drinks we had paid for.

Initially disappointed but overcome by a much better room upgrade

Mark F, West Midlands, stayed: August 2024

We we a little disappointed by the room we were initially given as it was very dark & dingy, and nothing like what we were expecting, with a terrible view of the back yard . Also there was no bottle of wine in room as described in our package, we had to ask at the bar if we could have our sparkling wine. As it was my wife s birthday I felt we had to return to reception to reject the room. To our pleasant surprise we were then given the Hathaway suite which was lovely. The evening set meal was quite limited for choice but very pleasant all the same & the Spa facilities were very good. However, we only got 10% discount on our treatments as hotel guests and not 12% as our package stated. Overall I would have to say that the hotel & spa is in need of a little tlc (eg beds around pool broken & hotel a little dirty in places , mirrors in dining room s were filthy).

  • Would stay here again

The Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club, Stratford on Avon.

Paul, Herefordshire, stayed: July 2024

We arrived at this very imposing hotel via a long drive between large trees. We entered the hotel and waited at reception. We had to wait rather a long time at reception. An extra member of staff on reception would have been helpful.
Our room was very light and airy. The bathroom was a good size with very efficient down lights.
Plenty of nice toiletries were supplied for our use.
There was supposed to be a bottle of chilled wine in our room on arrival but alas there was none!
We called reception and they told us we would have to come down and fetch the bottle ourselves!!
When I did go to the bar for the wine they didn't know which type I was supposed to have.More time wasted sorting this out.
We had a two course meal as part our deal and that was adequate. The dining room was very nice with plenty of space.
The buffet breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The coffee was especially nice.
We had use of the spa and this was okay apart from some of the jacuzzis were not operating.
Overall we had a lovely time but the management need to put on extra staff.
The staff were friendly enough but were put under pressure.
I would not stay here again only because we have visited this area and would like to go elsewhere.
