Booked through Cotswolds hotel breaks and although there were discrepancies between my booking and the info the hotel received, the hotel staff did their upmost to sort initial problems out. In the end we had an updated room which was lovely. This did not diminish our enjoyment of our stay. Great location near Westonbirt Arboretum
ONCE AGAIN
We have stayed a number of times at the hotel. Each time our experience has been very good. The room we were given on this occasion was the one we stayed in for our first visit. It has been tastefully updated to meet current tastes and expectations. Food in the restaurant very good, and the staff were attentive without being fussy. Good location for exploring the south Cotswolds.,
Very Relaxing Stay
We stayed for four nights at the Hare & Hounds in late January. The room was very comfortable. The staff were all excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. Enjoyed the complimentary tickets for Westonbirt Arboretum. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
superb mini-break
A charming hotel situated in a country location. the service was excellent and the arrangements
for the stay had a lot of thought going into them.
Lovely restaurant and ambiance but issues with the room.
We booked for one night on a Friday and also had dinner in the main restaurant and breakfast. It is a beautiful building and the food and service in the restaurant was outstanding. The issues were with the room. Firstly, the walls were extremely thin and you could hear everything. We were kept up by people talking well into the early hours of the morning. It was so bad that we had to ring the night porters at 2am and 3am to try and get them to stop. We also found the beds rock hard and the pillows uncomfortable. Overall we had about two hours sleep and woke up completely exhausted. Reception were very apologetic in the morning and gave us 50 off our stay but with the room costing in excess of 200 we felt a bit short changed. I would definitely return to eat or go to the bar but wouldn t stay again.
A Relaxing Break
The hotel has the advantage of being a stone s throw from Westonbirt Arboretum which is a great place to visit.
The staff are very helpful and go about their business with efficiency and cheerful enthusiasm.
We stayed in room 41 (Wingnut) which is situated in the Woodland Cottage building. The room is spacious and the en-suite bathroom is more than adequate with both bath and walk-in shower. Although the building is situated near to the road there is little noise during the night hours.
We ate in both Jack Hare s bar and the Beaufort restaurant. The menu in both places appears to be identical. On our first night we were asked, on entering the bar, whether we had a reservation which seemed a little strange, although, in fairness, the bar was busy. The food was very good and well presented, particularly the pork and lamb dishes. We had sandwiches one lunchtime and although the price seemed a bit steep at 12 a throw they were a meal in themselves!
The folder in the room said that the Wi-Fi was fast and this is true but it is not always reliable. When I enquired about this at reception I was told that this came about because the hotel is between two transmission points.
Our stay was very enjoyable and we can recommend the hotel to anyone seeking a relaxing break. The large rear garden is well provided with both deck chairs and shady shelters with comfortable seats.
I have also written a review on Trip Advisor.
Very disappointing stay
I m sorry to say that my feedback following our two night stay at the Hare and Hounds is fairly negative.
Our room (room 3) was poorly presented. For example, only one bedside lamp and that one in a poor, possibly dangerous condition. The shower was very poor and the bath plug mechanism was broken. Frankly, Premier Inn bedrooms are much better quality and at a fraction of the cost.
Our evening meal in your restaurant was poor. The gluten free bread provided was inedible and the excuse that that was the only type of gluten free bread we can get in is laughable. Breakfast was also poor and again easily bettered by our Premier Inn breakfast earlier in our holiday.
To advertise the hotel as a luxury country house hotel is a considerable exaggeration. We certainly will not be staying with you again or in any of the other hotels in your group, or recommending you to friends or family.
I booked at theHare and Hounds to round off our holiday and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The experience was altogether a major disappointment.
I hope you can use this feedback to make changes necessary to bring your hotel up to the level that you clearly believe you offer to your guests.
