In need of a revamp
This hotel is in a nice quiet location. Overall it s a nice hotel with a great Restaraunt.
I can only comment on room we stayed in which unfortunately is in need of some repairs. The room size is okay and there was an excellent shower in the en-suite. However the windows were rotting in fact we had to be extremely careful not to break them when opening and closing them. Also the door you had to shove, push and slam to open and close. Ironic really when situated next to a sign saying respect other residents. It was impossible to close the door without making a noise.
Also after returning from first day out we came back to find room hadn t been refreshed. Reception then told me they don t normally do it?. We had been in two previous hotels to our stay here and both cleaned the rooms. In one case you put a sign on door asking to clean. Sorry but an hotel like this needs to sort this out. We have stopped at several Countryhotels and this is the first that didn t clean the rooms as normal.
Staff were fine and otherwise it was okay.
I would only stay here again if knowing these issues had been resolved.

The hotel was nice but in parts it looked like it need some upgrades The room was excellent it there was 2 problems the first was there was a bad draft coming through the window so we had to have the heating on all the time the trim on the carpet had screw heads prominent
The bar area was nice the staff were excellent the only thing that let it down was some guests that were staying there over night was using very bad language ie swearing the bar staff asked them to curb there language which they did I know you get that but it was bad and not good for your establishment We were unable to have starters as you were short on staff we was not told this until we went to order we could have be advised on check in
would definitely stay here again
Staff were friendly and welcoming. food in the restaurant was delicious. Rooms were clean and well designed.
We had a lovely quiet and relaxing break. would definitely stay here again.
Professional and cheerful
A.a most enjoyable stay where we were well looked after by a very helpful, professional and cheerful staff. Nothing was too much trouble.
Not what was expected
The hotel is next to a busy, noisy road.
Despite the name the restaurant was very disappointing,
very poor service and very disappointing food.
At checkout we were overcharged by 20, which took 3 days to sort out.
The Review
This hotel is not just another road side stopover or "budget" in any way - neither is it very expensive - road noise from the A38 is a small nuisance
but not really a problem. Food all round was great and varied - bar prices were a bit heavy and spirit measures debatable. Easy to find close to the M5 and easy to access both Gloucester and Bristol.we would return if we needed to be in that area again,
Restuarant
For a famous chef to put his name to this restaurant is most disappointing
Over priced. Not worth the money!!!
When we got to the hotel the reception girl was very polite and helpful, the room was dated with mould round the paint peeling windows, pubic airs in the bath !! , there was a noise all night coming out of the sink in bathroom!!,
We asked if we could borrow an iron as there was nothing in the room, the one that was delivered to the room by reception was so small and didn t get hot enough so was a waste of time!!! You don t expect this from a place like this and at their prices!!!!
The food was a let down, breakfast was cold every morning, had to ask for it to be put in microwave!!!
Dinner was a disaster on the one day ,, so we asked a waitress about it and she was very rude!! So we paid the bill and left
