Good hotel let down badly by over pretentious restaurant

Ruth W, Leicestershire, stayed: February 2020

Could not fault the hotel in any way. Lovely clean rooms and heloful reception staff. The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Over priced and poor quality. I ordered fillet steak the first night and there was not even 3oz of meat, served on a luke warm plate with luke warm veg. To be fair they did offer a sweet foc. The breakfast.was appalling. I could g
o on but i think you get the message.

Hotel not luxury

PC, West Sussex, stayed: September 2021

Disappointed in the hotel as regarding being branded as off peak luxury accommodation . The supposedly superior room was small and dark. Also has continued whining noise overdate . Had to continue make staff aware of break we were book in for also at reception.

No review title

The rooms that were offered as part of the booking were in poor condition. The doors leading into the bedrooms looked like there had been cases and baggage banged again them as they were all badly scuffed and scratched and needed painting. As the first thing you see when entering the room it did fill us with much confidence. The room was basic and not upgraded and the bottom of the bath was not in a good state and condition. Luxury hotel does not really match what was on offer. Would have had the same kind of room at the Premier Inn for a lot less money. Very disappointed.

shakespearian break

Ann, Devon, stayed: September 2024

The Arden hotel is ideally placed for visiting the theatres and places of interest. The staff were all friendly and very helpful over the problems we had. Our room was comfortable but the thermostat control of the bathroom water taps did not function properly. Breakfast and afterrnoon tea were excellent but I had to send back my evening dinner main course of fish pie on the only evening we dined. Overall, we enjoyed our break but I would not recommend this hotel for anybody with mobility issues because of the many steps to reach the various levels.

Relaxed stay

Anon, stayed: September 2024

It was our second visit and to be honest a bit disappointing. Staff were not very welcoming and on two occasions questioned my booking. The food was OK but not as good as I would expect the price, two puddings on the menu weren't available. The room was tired and in need of upgrading, rust in the bath and side panel damaged.

Great Hotel but bad organisation

Lisa, Surrey, stayed: December 2024

We stayed at the Arden Hotel for 2 nights in December to visit Stratford upon Avon and the Xmas market. The hotel is nice and its location is amazing. We booked this using a voucher bought for me for my birthday. We paid in advance and the deal included B and B, an evening meal up to a 30pp total and an afternoon tea.
The room was nice, the food good.
The problem was with the organisation. Although we had booked and paid in advance this didnt seem to be registered. So we were asked to pay again on arrival. We had booked the restaurant in the evening but our reservation didnt seem to be registered. We booked the afternoon tea and again this wasnt registered. It was all a bit awkward as we had to explain at every point that we had already booked and paid for most of our trip. This meant it wasnt as relaxing as it should have been. When we checked out the bill presented was for 2 nights, a meal and the tea. So again we had to show that we had already paid. It was all a bit of a shambles.

A disappointing experience

EC, West Sussex, stayed: April 2018

Although the overall impression was pleasing closer inspection revealed faults and unrepaired damage. Curtains in dining room and bedroom were badly torn and window frames needed repainting. Chipped paintwork in the suite and water damage due to a badly designed bath/shower was a surprise. Poorly designed and cramped wardrobes with no immediate lighting, a complete lack of drawers and only one chair in the bedroom area were an annoyance. A pleasing feature was windows that could be opened.

Both the afternoon tea and the evening meal we felt were not value comparable with other establishments.
