Faded & Tired

JB, stayed: July 2023

The hotel externally looks great, but sadly the room we stayed in didn't match that experience. The room (room 2) was large and overlooking the garden, however the bathroom had cracked floor tiles, an extractor fan that was loose & noisy, the mixer taps had no lever to switch to shower mode, and the radiator has seen better days. The bedroom itself was just generally tired, dated dark wallpaper with signs of wear & tear, a tiny TV tucked away in the corner. It appears that the hotel is run by two people at a time, when we checked in we met a guy who later served dinner along with another guy, and then at breakfast these two guys where replaced by two girls who served breakfast & then checked us out with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. Not a hotel we will be returning to. One plus point - it's near the M4 and you can hear it from the room..

Below average unfortunately!

Anon, stayed: June 2024

This hotel has beautiful grounds and views, large and free car park. Our package included dinner bed and breakfast which we were looking forward to after a stressful few months. I m vegetarian and my partner does eat meat, on the dinner menu I only had 1 item to choose from which was poorly reheated and inedible. Breakfast was horrible, continental items not restocked and were all empty, I had veggie breakfast which was missing 3 items compared to the menu listed, the sausage I had was in fact raw and cold on the inside. This hotel could be a real slice of luxury if they go back to basics and start getting them right, rooms need updating as part of this. We left in a hurry after breakfast as we were hungry to go somewhere else for food!

Not great average at best

MB, Lancashire, stayed: July 2024

Dated hotel, poor general customer service. A feeling as though the staff didn t know how to treat guests

Building work and renovations also going on during our stay

We are sorry to hear that not all your expectations were met during your stay.

We were not advised of any renovation work being carried out at the hotel and have contacted the hotel regarding this, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Room 6 Bates

Is e have written to Guest Relations Ceri Buist and Luke Jacomb s and are not satisfied with their response. We are looking at a refund for our stay.
No welcome cocktail on the first night, wasn t offered. Staff didn t appear to know what board we were on, or what was included in our booking.
Dinner on the first night for vegan only one option as there was no rice for the katsu curry - no protein served with the noodles, although tasty would have benefited from some protein such as tofu as was not very filling
Soup was lovely but served without bread, we had to ask half way through the service for this to be provided
Desert was extremely poor, the sorbet was like liquid obviously been left to melt or placed on a hot surface. The pastry was simply a base with tinned fruit. No edible
Breakfast - no vegan options for pasty, yogurt, dairy or meat alternatives for cheese and ham. This was extremely disappointing given the climate where vegan options are widely available
Vegetarian breakfast was served without the avocado. Hash brown of poor quality tasted cheap
Staff friendly but on the whole the choice and variety of menus was restrictive and a disappointing from previous visits
We upgraded for a superior room, nice view but furniture and facilities tied, furniture and carpet stains, bath facets didn t shut off or leaked
Second night - around 22: 15 we experienced knocking on our door, we asked who was knocking and what they wanted only to have no response. This continued with the person saying just answer the door. Eventually they went away and we called down to reception six times with sadly no response. We didn t sleep very well that night and locked the door internally placing the large chair in front of the door. We reported this to reception at 8:00 am and enquired what time the bar shut. We were told last orders were at 22:45, to which we responded outlining what had transpired and questioned why no one had answered the phone.
Reception advised that they had check the cameras, but didn t see anything. To which I responded are you stating that you didn t see anyone knocking at our door. Their response was there were no cameras upstairs.

In short we were very disappointed in our stay, the food wasn t up to the normal expectations, the room was tied and overall didn t feel secure.

We are requesting a formal response with the view of being reimbursed or offered an alternative stay.

Kind regards.

Room 6 Sophie and Dawn Bates

Cold Room Spoilt Visit

Rodney R, Essex, stayed: October 2024

Started well as the barman allowed a substitution of wine instead of cocktails for our welcoming drink, but accessing room 1 at 5.30 plunged us into the chill!
A good large room, a slightly open window and one medium sized cold radiator doesn't add up to a happy ambience!
A trip to reception ( no phone in room) and a promise to put the heat on( why not on in October??) wasn't too reassuring but eventually the radiator became warmer but the enormous pipes of the bathroom heater sulked and stayed cold and the slate floor helped keep the room nice and cool!
It was warmer in the dining room ,food and service ok, and breakfast was very good.
I wrote to Luke General manager ,who assured me that the maintenance staff would be alerted and that room 1 was due for renovation.

Could Do Better

Anon, stayed: November 2024

A dreary hotel with very little to recommend it except for the staff. who were excellent. No hint of luxury whatsoever. Room was clean and spacious but basic. No toiletries except for soap dispenser attached to bathroom wall. Food was OK and service good. Maybe after visiting Cotswold pubs I was expecting a log fire and cosy seating but his was not to be found at Stanton Manor.

Thanks for your comments. We actually have a beautiful open fire which dates back to Domesday; in the cooler months this is lit throughout the day and evening for our guests to enjoy whilst relaxing in our newly renovated lounge area. I'm glad you enjoyed elements of your stay with us, we do have a wonderful hard-working team here at the hotel!

Handy for M4

SM, Wiltshire, stayed: October 2023

This is a lovely house in delightful grounds but needs some tlc.
The staff tried to be helpful but needed more training in the booking system and welcoming. Our booking couldn t be found at first, when it was we were given a key to a room but not told where the room was.
We hadn t realised that Sunday lunch was the only available evening meal and although a welcome cocktail was part of the deal we had to search for someone to provide it - and the only option was espresso martini, no alcohol free or other flavour.
Breakfast was included in the price but when we looked at the menu we could only have continental, not the cooked breakfast we d been looking forward to.
Overall it s a useful stop over when travelling on the M4 but not the luxury birthday treat I d expected.

Short Break

Anon, stayed: March 2024

We didn't find the hotel particularly comfortable with the furniture being quite basic. There was also a Wedding at the hotel and access to the drawing room was not available. Some improvements are also needed in the restaurant. We understand the hotel is under new management so hopefully there will be some improvements.
