We have stayed here many times before but this is first time since covid. Thought it was under staffed for the amount of people staying breakfast was causing a few problems because of this. Also evening menu could be changed a little more with options and include more for vegetarians. We do like the area very much but maybe a few little changes could be for the better.
Too early closure
The staff at breakfast were almost rude and dismissive . All other staff especially the young bar staff were very good. On the Saturday night , returning from a meal out before 10pm the place was deserted and in the dark no staff or management ! I think this is unacceptable as well as potentially illegal . We were left to turn off a fire and lights and had to walk around the hotel to get to our rooms so that the front door access would be locked . If we had not then the hotel would have been accessible to anybody ! This was all on the night when everybody got an extra hours sleep due the clocks going back .goodness knows what would have happened if guests had an emergency or there had been a fire !
Birthday treat
This is our third stay at Noel Arms, sadly it will be our last.
Food in the restaurant- had to return starter as it was absolutely tasteless. The main and desert were edible. At breakfast waited to be seated, understaffed , the lady serving in the restaurant was also serving in the coffee shop.
Poor buffet selection, failed to eat the sausage on the full English, both of us detected an unpleasant tang to it.
Apparently some rooms were closed off for refurbishment so we were allocated room 11 which was up some difficult stairs, not good for my husband as he has painful knees.
With some improvements it could be a pleasant stay.

Room very sub standard from what was expected and cost. Very tired and threadbare furniture. Room allocated and not suitable for an extra bed. Complained and left after one night to Cotswold House - sister hotel - which was very nice and transfer handled really well.
Disappointing
When we arrived at the hotel on Friday evening, we were simply handed the room key and told to make our way to the hotel room; directions but no escort were given.
I assumed there would be a welcome letter which would explain the details of our package and what we should expect. Unfortunately there was no such letter or explanation.
We then went to the restaurant shortly after checking in, we had the embarrassment of having to ask what we were entitled to on the menu. If we hadn't asked and assumed we just simply selected 3 courses off the menu, we most certainly would not have been told about the supplements applicable on specific dishes.
The next day we went to the reception to find out how we went about taking up the coffee & cake and champagne or afternoon tea included in our package. The receptionist said we should have been given vouchers for the coffee and cake on check in which we had not.
Again, we had to go back to reception about the champagne otherwise none would have been offered.
The waiter on the second night seemed confused by the deal and charged the 3 course meal to our room bill. We additionally encountered another couple who were on the 3 night package and had also been charged for various items which they thought were included in their package including the supplements for certain dishes which the had not been told about and none of which are indicated on the menu. The supplements were only advised verbally with a vague approximation of the cost.
Whilst everything was sorted out eventually, it all just felt like hard work and not really helpful to a enjoying a relaxing weekend. Overall I felt disappointed - it's the first time I have used your service as I usually use Secret Escapes and have never encountered the difficulties we experienced this weekend.
