Noel Arms short break
Ideal for exploring the Cotswolds, excellent restaurant though wines were heavily overpriced. Bedroom in need of some TLC. Lovely conservatory for breakfast and lunch.
Overall good but room for improvement
It was a nice stay. Afternoon tea was really good and we were able to take a doggy bag as we wanted to save ourselves for our 3-course dinner. Starter and main were really good unfortunately pudding was disappointing. The hotel was on the whole nice but walls were paper thin so you heard virtually every word and action of your neighbours.
Mother & daughter birthday getaway treat.
The village of Chipping Campden is very clean & beautiful.
On our arrival the reception didn't feel as warm as it could have been & check-in seemed to be drawn out - not as smooth as it could have been.
As we proceeded to our room the first impression was not good. The stair carpet was threadbare & should have been replaced a long time ago.
Our room was at the rear of the main building on the first floor (room 19?). It was double aspect but only looked over the car park. The room was disappointingly small & although we'd booked it as a twin, the beds were pushed together. We moved the beds & put the bedside cabinets between them. On doing this, it was clear that the beds had not recently been moved or vacuumed under as there were food crumbs under them.
The bathroom was extremely disappointing. It should have been refurbished years ago. Very small with a ridiculously large washbasin taking up much needed space.
The tiles were cracked mismatched, The seal around the narrow bath had black mould marks on it.
The shower head fitting was loose & looked as if it was about to come off of the wall. The shower did run ok with reasonable pressure & hot water.
The towels had seen better days.
The extractor did not appear to work.
I have stayed in many hotels, (chains, individuals & budget properties) in the past & although the character of the hotel was nice, to be quite honest the standard of the room would not reach premierinn for standards of facilities & cleanliness.
The food in the restaurant was excellent & always presented well.
We preferred the ambience in the conservatory to the main restaurant which seemed to lack in character. Even a few plants would make it less bland & almost canteen like.
There were a couple of items of furniture in the lounge area (armchairs) which were in dire need of reuphosltering. I know shabby is currently fashionable but these were tired & worn out & certainly did not add any appeal whatsoever.
The waitresses & bar staff were welcoming & helpful but most of the reception staff were a bit off-hand.
I thought the cost of the stay was expensive for the standard of accomodation provided.
Would I stay here again? - not really when there is other accomodation in the area which is less expensive & a better standard.
I have written this review as an honest account of my experience & hope it serves as constructive criticism, which is how I wish it to be interpreted.
Good location but average hotel.
We chose the Noel Arms for its location and dog friendliness. In that respect it was very good with easy access to dog walks from the rear car park. We were, however, disappointed with the restaurant which had very little atmostphere and we didn't find the staff particularly friendly. We had a 3 course meal as part of our booking and the food was slightly above average but we did not expect a bill for £96.50. After returning the bill twice they finally got it right but feel we should have been told about supplements for steak when we ordered. It did spoil the night a bit.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and our room was clean and reasonably comfortable. All in all not a bad hotel but not as good as we expected.
Too early closure
The staff at breakfast were almost rude and dismissive . All other staff especially the young bar staff were very good. On the Saturday night , returning from a meal out before 10pm the place was deserted and in the dark no staff or management ! I think this is unacceptable as well as potentially illegal . We were left to turn off a fire and lights and had to walk around the hotel to get to our rooms so that the front door access would be locked . If we had not then the hotel would have been accessible to anybody ! This was all on the night when everybody got an extra hours sleep due the clocks going back .goodness knows what would have happened if guests had an emergency or there had been a fire !
