A Little Dissapointed

MC, stayed: September 2015

I booked this hotel as a suprise birthday present for my wife, having read some previous reviews.  The welcome was good, however I feel the hotel is looking a litttle tired, lots of cobwebs in the bedroom.

The restaurant was the biggest disappointment, for a Two AA Rossette, the menu was not very inspiring, the food was average, and staff although attentive, were a bit aloof during service.  Breakfast was good and service was better.  Would not rush back.

We found the hotel to be very isolated. The room was a good size and very clean, tea, coffee and home made biscuits a nice touch. The atmosphere in the restaurant (possibly because of the age of the patrons) was very strained and could do with very soft back-ground music, that was on Wednesday and Thursday but all changed on Friday, a younger group arrived and made all the difference, a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Lovely location, tired hotel

Jon, Cornwall, stayed: February 2019

Corse Lawn hotel is in a beautiful location surrounded by glorious countryside. The hotel itself is "tired" and could do with a refurbishment. The rooms are large and well lit with lovely Georgian windows but our bathroom had seen better days with a leaking bath waste, cracked tiles on the floor and quite antiquated fittings. The main room was clean and tidy with excellent tea and coffee facilities but the wardrobe was very dusty and full of cobwebs.

The dining at Corse Lawn is of a good quality with an extensive menu. The wine list is vast and requires an expert to fully understand and appreciate. Again the decor is tired with sun bleached curtains and dated decoration. The service itself is very good with attentive staff. Linen and cutlery are clean if a little worn.

Overall the staff are very friendly and quick to deal any requests. The hotel is quiet and relaxing and in and ideal location to explore the local towns and cities.

SEASONED TRAVELLER, stayed: July 2016

Room we had was a bit tired.  Dog friendly hotel which suited us.  Food not especially memorable.  Drinks expensive.  Wouldn't return in a hurry.

We chose this hotel for an overnight stay to celebrate our 58th wedding anniversary. We were very disappointed to find on arrival that the swimming pool had been closed for repair for some time although the website said it would be open from early March: the pool was one reason we chose this hotel. The room was good although the bathroom needed updating. At dinner the food in the restaurant was good but service slow and muddled: we ordered coffee in the bar afterwards and they forgot about us!
Breakfast was good and served efficiently at the table. The surroundings of the hotel and the interior decor were good and relaxing.

Mixed review

JB, West Midlands, stayed: July 2024

Receptionist (Sally) and welcome was excellent. Large room overlooking the pond, clean but dated. No coffee in the pot, and cafeti re still had dregs in from last guest. The receptionist dealt with this quickly and a huge apology.
Our main frustration was that the dinner menu was 39.50 for 3 courses. This looked reasonable until we realised only 3 starters ( 2 soups, and a tomato/ mozzarella salad) and 2 main courses ( trout and Guinea fowl?) neither of which we liked. So we had to pay supplements on our main courses. This was very disappointing, and although the food was nice we felt cheated as few options without supplemental charges. Some would say hotel is dated, doilies under everything, sticky dining tables, old silver cutlery and maybe that s charming. But it does need some tlc and gentle modernisation. And a more cheerful barman with better beer!
Very expensive for what we had.

Corse Lawn House Hotel says...

No coffee was poor, and I am glad Sally deal with it well. I agree about the menu, and we have already changed the
pricing, and we are giving an 'allowance of £40 for the a la carte menu, and of course they can also choose off the
special offer menu.. The hotel is traditional, and is also in need of a Refurbish, but I am afraid that money is rather short
as a result of the pandemic and the huge cost of living and hike in wages, which has made things much more difficult. The
Barman was on his last day!!
I am really sorry you did not enjoy your visit, and indeed we will try to do better. I do think it sounds as if you were a bit
unlucky, but even so, I think we should be able to produce a better experience.

Location very nice but Hotel needs a refurb.

Anon, stayed: February 2024

Overall impression of the hotel is that it has seen better days. The rooms that we used could all do with a refurb. As for the Dining experience we could not fault the food which we found excellent, however our table was "sticky". Had difficulty in lifting plates and other items because they were stuck to the table. Perhaps another indicator of the a refurb being necessary. Bedroom and the bed was spacious and a very nice aspect overlooking gardens and ponds. But furnishings and bathroom were tired looking and needed an update.
