Lovely hotel

Mitchell, Nottinghamshire, stayed: June 2019

We stayed for three nights the room we had was very nice. We enjoyed the meal we had in the restaurant and the Hotel is in a lovely location. A big plus was how very helpful the staff were. Gavin the manager and Alberto and the Gentleman who did the maintenance couldn t do enough for us regarding parking of the two Harley Davidsons we went on which for us is a real bonus. The Hotel is set in lovely grounds but our only criticism would be the patio seating area. It really does need making comfortable and considering the size of the Hotel bigger. The hard wooden seating and loose chipping you have to navigate especially if you are on heels or disabled are really not suitable. Some comfortable patio furniture on paving would be much more suitable. Apart from that spoiling an otherwise lovely stay we had a great time.

What a lovely hotel and staff were so helpful welcoming and friendly. Nothing was to much trouble for them. It made it all the more special because we had an upgrade without asking. Will definitely be back.

Would not stay at The Bowden Hall Hotel again.

Anon, stayed: August 2019

My husband and I booked to stay only one night at the rate of 182.00,
After viewing the website which appeared attractive & comfortable rooms, we decided to book.
On arrival we walked into the reception which was just a small desk without a welcome from anyone.
Then a young lady appeared saying sorry but we have a function on.
We where given a room on the third floor which looked unwelcoming, under furnished, a small cupboard with 4 hooks for clothes. The room & bathroom looked dismal, the towels where grim hard and tatty, not a bathrobe, slippers, no information folder about the hotel, After asking a young lad at the desk if there was possibility of an upgrade or another room furnished at least, he answered "no sorry, and I'm new here not sure!" We decided to just forget it after looking around the hotel for a manager..... there wasn't one on duty! Breakfast greeting was "We are closing soon so do you want a cooked breakfast! unbelievable. Last time staying here. In great need of refurbishment in rooms and bathrooms very dated & obviously understaffed.

Weekend break

NB, Hampshire, stayed: September 2019

Hotel had no lifts so you have to climb stairs to most rooms. Room on first floor was OK. Bed was spacious and comfortable. When we stayed for a weekend break there was a wedding on which seemed to stretch resources and service at hotel. First night in restaurant we had to wait two hours for main course to arrive. When it did arrive chicken dish was over cooked and subsequently tough.. We were not advised when arriving in restaurant that there was a serious delay in kitchen. Had we known we would have had choice as to eating elsewhere. Issue was raised with hotel staff who apologized. Speaking to other guests further problems existed in restaurant next day and we decided not to use hotel restaurant for evening meals during our stay. Staff at hotel were however pleasant and generally accommodating. Sunday breakfast was a bit of a free for all due to wedding guests with plates and food running out at alarming rate. If staying at hotel at weekends expect possible issues if large wedding party in residence.

Excellent Stay

SBWirral, stayed: September 2019

Booked 1 night package deal with dinner bed & breakfast & half bottle of champagne on arrival. Excellent value. Hotel is beautiful set in lovely grounds with a lake which is hidden away because of the trees. Lovely old building which has been sympathetically renovated. Our room was very comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities. Champagne was waiting for us well chilled which was a nice touch. All the staff we met were very nice and helpful. Drinks are on the expensive side. We paid 28 for a bottle of Chenin Blanc but food was excellent and overall we thought good value. Couple of local pubs which were ok. Good location for exploring area.

Not sure what this means.

Stay Sun to Thu coach tour;Thu to Sat as private guests. Room 137; bedside light failing bulb, shower mechanism unsatisfactory, had to settle for bath instead; no drawers for storing clothes, had to live out of suitcase; hanging space barely adequate, otherwise good, more spacious than some other hotels we have used . Were we the only people who have stayed on after coach tour? Hiatus in daily paper order after the changeover point.
