Nice Hotel
Room was 3 flights of stars and a long walk to reception! We are an elderly couple.
One of the restaurants meals was poor, very chewy pork steak.
Breakfast good with friendly staff.
Friendly staff
This hotel has very good staff. This makes uo for the rooms, whilst clean and comfortable, were a little basic.
Average overall
The restaurant was disappointing.
The food was average but the waiter service was poor. We had to wait 30mins for our stater course and another 20 minutes for our main course. We were told there was a wedding on which delayed kitchen service. This should not have affected us.
Interesting Place
We were looking forward to our stay this interesting period hotel - especially its architectural features and it's William Morris windows.
The staff were lovely, the food was fine, but the hotel itself is the pervasive smell of 'rising damp' detracts from the ambience.
Not a luxury destination
The only luxury was the half-bottle of champagne in the room! A disappointing stay. The hotel is tired. The upholstery in public rooms is soiled. Carpets throughout the building are stained. At dinner on our first night one starter and three mains were unavailable. We dined at 8.00 pm and the guests on a coach were already in the dining room. Obviously, the chef hadn't allowed sufficient food choices for all guests. Salt and pepper squid were overcooked and hard. Alcohol was reasonably priced. Breakfast offered a good choice and was well-cooked. Bed throw was marked. Bed linens were white and towels soft, although one had a hole in it. Staff were efficient and friendly.
Good stay, Some attention to detail needed
We had a lovely night in this beautiful setting. Checkin was quick and easy. The rooms were large and spacious with a lovely view over the ground.
Service for dinner was slightly indifferent. One minute it felt like we were being rushed, the next we were not seen to for 10-15 minutes. The steak had some lovely flavours but wasn't cooked very well and difficult to eat.
Slept really well with lovely comfy beds.
Breakfast was poor, albeit we did attend at the busiest time but there was very little cooked food left and as so many people were waiting for it, by the time we were next it was all gone again meaning value for money was not given here.
With a few touch ups to service and being a little more proactive with food and breakfast this hotel will definitely offer an amazing experience.
we booked through Country break hotels and the package was very good for the duration of the stay.
A nice break
A nice hotel in a good location for visiting Gloucester The hotel is little tired in places the food options in the restaurant were limited but were of good quality staff were friendly and helpful
