Perfect for our Golden Wedding celebration break

Liz P, Hertfordshire, stayed: March 2024

The staff are really friendly and welcoming and we had a room with a lovely view over the hotel grounds. The breakfasts were really good, there was always a choice of tables and the restaurant looks lovely in the natural light coming from the large windows. The restaurant is a bit less attractive in the evenings - the lighting could be improved and maybe plants etc to give a better ambience. The evening meal itself however was really good as was the delicious afternoon tea.
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a peaceful, relaxing and comfortable stay.

Sunday evening meal on my long booked 80th birthday.

Keith B, Somerset, stayed: March 2024

More than 50% on the evening menu was not available at 7.30pm. Including the steak,
The only French wine on the wine list was not available. Ordered tawny port with the cheese board ruby turned up as tawny was out of stock. Finally we went into the lounge for coffee and ordered Famous Grouse scotches all round only to find that was out of stock too.
Next morning for breakfast the yogurt and hash browns was not available from the start.
One must ask if they are having trouble paying their suppliers.
Yes I would stay again if they would commit to better availability of fare and that they had not gone bust.
We were in room 228 our friends who were with us were in 226 Mr & Mrs Susan & Brian Phillips they will verify my account of events

Hotel stay

Philippa, Devon, stayed: March 2024

Lovely setting & impressive building. Comfortable lounge area but noisy when you get a large group sitting near by. The bedrooms were good & beds comfortable & we enjoyed the champagne left in the room. We didn t think the food at dinner was very good, mains & pear tart for dessert disappointing. The sandwiches at lunch were very basic , no nice bread & minimal filling. Overall it was nice stay & a lovely place to relax & catch up with friends . Helpful & friendly staff helped to make it a pleasant stay & we d most probably return.

Totally disappointed with this hotel. As we arrived they had a wedding going on. People and kids running around reception and taken over lounge area. This should all be separate and where was the wedding co-ordinator? Not a big menu for dinner which is fine but three items on it were taken off. Breakfast next day disaster all the guests staying for the wedding had cleared most of the food so hardly anything left. I had to upgrade on the bedroom and the classic room so small and one up from a Travelodge. Disappointed as it was my husband's birthday.

Bargain break.

HS, Somerset, stayed: April 2024

We took our daughter and teenage grandson to Bowden Hall for a 3 night break. It s a lovely setting, comfortable room with en suite bathrooms and WONDERFULLY quiet. Instant hot water at any hour. The staff were delightful and any queries or requests were answered or acted upon instantly.
We were disappointed with the calibre of the first night meal and service was very slow.
The carpets looked shabby in places, particularly the corridors where parts were missing. They obviously had a problem with moth infestation as they were actually spraying the soft furnishings whilst we were there.
The cost of our stay was amazingly good value and enabled us to enjoy time away as a family, a real treat. Thankyou.

Easter in the Cotswolds

Adrian, Essex, stayed: April 2024

Really good value for money. Excellent chilled champagne in room on arrival. Breakfasts were superb. Particularly impressed that there was freshly squeezed orange juice available. Afternoon tea was lovely and the restaurant food was nice. Though could be improved by expanding the menu and introducing a specials board. The lounge and restaurant areas were lovely to eat or relax. All the staff were helpful and attentive. Rooms were spacious with huge beds and a nice bathroom with bath and a good shower, though the bath was fairly small. A really nice touch were the pods down by the lake which we had a meal in one evening. A lovely experience and I would highly recommend anyone staying to take advantage of this opportunity. Overall I would definitely stay here again and don t be put off by the negative comments about the interior of the hotel.
