Shabby

MT, stayed: September 2020

The room we had was very poor. We had stains on the carpet and chairs, broken tiles in the bathroom, electric curtains not working. And my husband having to climb up to open the window. Where he bruised his thigh. No hot water on the second day and the food was dry and we asked for some gravy or jus but we were told there wasn t any. So we decided to cancel the next two night dinner and went to the local pub.

Friendly and very helpful staff . Food was excellent! On the negative site, the room under the roof was to hot to have a good sleep . Hotel looked dated in some part of the building . They definitely need a window cleaner and some flowerpots in the lounge ( looks a bit empty )

BARGAIN BREAK STAY

Anon, stayed: May 2019

Good location and decor staff helpful. Restaurant way down on other bargain breaks previously stayed at lots of complaints during meals no overall manger to supervise service. The food needs a good overhaul to get to standard needed

Disappointing for gluten free

LT, Devon, stayed: May 2019

Hotel in lovely location and lots to do nearby. Room was lovely and clean and fresh. Food however was disappointing. One of us is gluten free and I made the hotel aware of this on the booking so they did accommodate but I find, in comparison to many other places these days, the offer was POOR. Such limited choice on restaurant menu, poor pudding offer, no gluten free breakfast items (sausages/hash browns etc) no fresh cake/scone for afternoon tea, only prepackaged and I had to ask for scone to be heated up to be edible. It really wouldn't take much for this situation to be 100% improved, just a little consideration; it wasn't the cheap option to stay here and yet I don't feel it was worth the extra we paid.

Weekend break

NB, Hampshire, stayed: September 2019

Hotel had no lifts so you have to climb stairs to most rooms. Room on first floor was OK. Bed was spacious and comfortable. When we stayed for a weekend break there was a wedding on which seemed to stretch resources and service at hotel. First night in restaurant we had to wait two hours for main course to arrive. When it did arrive chicken dish was over cooked and subsequently tough.. We were not advised when arriving in restaurant that there was a serious delay in kitchen. Had we known we would have had choice as to eating elsewhere. Issue was raised with hotel staff who apologized. Speaking to other guests further problems existed in restaurant next day and we decided not to use hotel restaurant for evening meals during our stay. Staff at hotel were however pleasant and generally accommodating. Sunday breakfast was a bit of a free for all due to wedding guests with plates and food running out at alarming rate. If staying at hotel at weekends expect possible issues if large wedding party in residence.

Nice staff, food disappointing

Helen, stayed: March 2019

Very friendly and helpful staff who made us feel welcome. Food quality was poor. Some dishes seemed to be frozen not fresh, others were just disappointing (fish cakes that were basically potato croquettes). No fresh juice at breakfast (only concentrated) and fruit itself was old, no individual fruit yogurts. Charged extra for proper coffee (espresso).

Birthday present

Anon, stayed: March 2019

We stayed for one night. Contemporary comfortable hotel. Room and ensuite were spotlessly clean and the large bed very comfortable. We had a view over the grounds at the front of the hotel. A lovely setting and great for exploring the Cotswolds. Helpful staff. What really let the hotel down was the restaurant. We had a 3 course meal in the evening. The prawn cocktail was so cold it was tasteless, I had mushrooms in a wine sauce on top of untoasted bread which was soggy. I had to return my Thai green chicken as the meat was gristly. We both had chicken curry which had very little meat. The fruit crumble was tiny, all crumble and very little fruit. The food came out quickly and we got the impression it had been prepared in advance and just microwaved. Very poor. Thankfully the breakfast was better.

Breakfast

Sue B, Buckinghamshire, stayed: December 2020

Breakfast was very poor. Packet cereal and packet croissant plus ice cold fruit! One day they provided bacon rolls so why couldn t they do it every day? Or, a cooked breakfast in the lounge or restaurant. Other hotels we have been to recently have managed to provide a decent breakfast. There seemed to be a staff shortage at the hotel. However, Steve, was extremely helpful.
