Very pleasant stay
A very nice hotel in a very nice setting we had a lovely time for an anniversary night away. Whilst all was of a good standard my one disappointment was despite eating as soon as the restaurant opened for our evening meal, a number of the advertised, and I would suggest most popular dishes, were unavailable.
Overall however, a very pleasant stay and I would book again.
Staff shortage shows
Let s start with the positives. Very good reception staff who were very welcoming. Bar staff friendly and attentive service at dinner. On to the rooms- well fist impressions not good. There was a dead wasp welcoming us as we walked in the room along with one bath towel that has a stain on it!!! Requested towels but due to staff shortages we had to eventually go to reception and collect them ourselves. The second room only had one cup and one sachet of coffee. It was so apparent that housekeeping is stretched. Dust and cobwebs on light fittings throughout the hotel and more dead wasps in the corridors. What a shame as this could be a little gem of a hotel.
A normal 3 star hotel
I was not impressed by this hotel.at all.First the reception were not fully aware of what we booked second there was no lift to the upper floors for struggling clients thirdly the room decor was a mess the bathroom door was falling apart from the bottom up.fourth the restaurant menu was the same all week and a lot of the listed food was not available also my wine was the fourth choice the first 3 were unavailable..I would have expected a lot more facilities from your star rating
Didn't They Do Well
For annual meet up with friends this year, for the first time, after a bit of research, we plumped for Bowden Hall. Not least because we got a great deal on price and an afternoon tea thrown in. As well as breakfast we had evening meal on all of our 3 nights stay with enough choice on the menu to find something different to try each evening. We thought we might find the service challenging when we were advised a coach party would be there during our stay but not so. Despite the difficulty in finding staff these days the mixture of new and experienced people in post did us proud even if the barman was a bit rough round the edges. The weather and the grounds were delightful so we were a happy foursome.

Nice hotel in easy reach of Gloucester and Cheltenham. Friendly staff and easy parking
Short Break
Restaurant was complexing breakfast was fantastic but dinner was awful. Dinner menu was short on choice and every item on the plate was poor. The sweet wasn't any better. Our first meal was included and we certainly didn't return for another meal the pub down the road offered a more extensive menu at less than half the price and much better quality. Room service was excellant and reception staff very helpful. Despite the terrible meal the hotel was very nice and we would consider returning without eating in the restaurant.
Fabulous country retreat
A delightful hotel in a beautiful, peaceful setting.
