Warm welcome
We had such a lovely check in experience which set us up for our stay.
We had two rooms that were kindly located next to each other without having to ask.
We booked the sparkle break package and couldn t fault the value for money.
The restaurant was gorgeous all of us thoroughly enjoying our choices, I would have given higher but
unfortunately one of the fish choices was missed so we waited on it coming out to start together (our choice I know)
Breakfast was lovely with plenty of staff available to quickly top things up and assist.
From the photos I did think that there were going to be more grounds to have a wonder around but this didn t cloud our stay.
Family birthday celebrations
Had one night at Bowden Hall to celebrate two family milestone birthdays. The package was called a champagne escape. We received everything in the package and were really pleased with our rooms and our dinner and breakfast. The staff were really welcoming, friendly and kind.
Wonderful staff were the best feature
Let's start with the good points. The staff at Bowden Hall are unfailingly cheerful, helpful, welcoming and hospitable. The situation is pleasant, in its own grounds and looks impressive from the outside. It is handily placed for Gloucester, Cheltenham and the county.
However, the inside is pretty dated and beginning to look a little shabby in places, particularly in the corridors. The room was clean but very dark with the window looking out onto conifer tress about 3 feet away. It wasn't the sort of room one could spend time relaxing in.
The main lounge was comfortable enough but the decor was redolent of quite a few years ago.
The breakfasts were pleasant with a good choice. Our real disappointment was dinner. On occasions our party had really rather sub standard fare. Ravioli was dreadful, smoked salmon was good one evening and the next quite poor. Fish and chips was extremely disappointing. The burgers were good. Quite frankly it wasn't up to the standard of a gastropub; I suspect there may be staffing issues in the kitchens.
Overall we had a pleasant time and the price was quite competitive but I have been to other much better Offpeak Luxury hotels so I don't see us returning to Bowden Hall.
Young s stay at Bowden Hall Hotel
Welcome from Nathan was warm, welcoming and friendly. Although we are both in our 70 s our room on the 4th floor was not too difficult and gave useful exercise. Meal in the restaurant was okay, although my wife s meal of leek and mushroom pie was a little dry and would have benefited from a sauce of some kind.
Great place to stay
Staff helpful and friendly lovely views from room and nice grounds, easy access to main roads and towns
Great location to have a short break
Arrived at the hotel entrance with with the imposing frontage of the the hotel and grounds which has you relaxed as soon as you arrive. A warm welcome from the staff on check in an explained all about out meal times and facilities.
We had upgraded to the superior room which was on the top floor offering great views over the countryside towards Glouster.
The Hotel doesn't have a lift so it did mean having to lug our dags up four flights of stairs, not really to much of an issue for us except on three occasions having to return back down oas both of our keys cards wouldn't work on three occasions.
Enjoy our meal in the restaurant on the first night.
Good selection of breakfasts in the morning.
Did find the drink a bit pricy at the bar but probably just regular hotel prices.
The room was adequate clean and serviced while we were there even though it was three days.
The decor was needing a little tlc in place but after the last two years that's probably understandable.
The tv remote was very temperamental and the air con once turned proved difficult to turn off again, probably just neede new batteries.
Overall I can say we had a pleasant stay.

Nice location
Lovely location, great views. The decor was nice in the main dining room .
Large beds, slightly firm for my taste. Breakfast was very good , plenty of choice, did gluten free options. Evening meal for me( gluten free) was poor , hardly any choice . Everyone else in our party said the evening meal was average, we wouldn t eat there in the evening again, we stayed twice in the same week post and prior to a family wedding at Elmore Court, we didn t eat in the restaurant the second night because of the first experience . But it s a lovely hotel, bit outdated in parts.
