We stayed for four days at Bowden Hall and it was fabulous in every way. From the minute we arrived we were made very welcome by Nathan on reception, and every member of staff were friendly.

We ate in the restaurant on the first night and it was perfect. The food was delicious and the staff were very professional and very friendly.

The breakfast was varied, and we all had everything we needed.

We would definitely return.

Lovely country house hotel

Stephen R, Caerdydd, stayed: September 2021

My wife and I recently visited this hotel for a three night break. We had read some negative reviews but for us it was a positive experience. We happened to arrive, at the start of September, to glorious sunny weather. The lovely lady on reception was very welcoming and full of information for us and although we were quite early our room was ready. We were on the fourth floor and you should be aware there are no lifts in the building. Our room was clean and tidy, a standard double, and did appear to be quite freshly decorated. We were on a deal where we had a half bottle of champagne on arrival so sat outside the hotel, in the sum, overlooking the lawns and enjoyed the drink. We ate a three course dinner at the hotel the first night, an afternoon tea on the second day followed later by a bar meal and dinner again on the third night. All the food was excellent as was the morning breakfasts. A fabulous Eton Mess was the highlight for me. I have to also say that all of the staff that we interacted with were lovely. Very friendly and professional. Overall we had a lovely stay.

Great location!

Lovely settings and fabulous location . Staff were most helpful and friendly . My main criticism would be no wardrobe in the rooms apart from a tiny rail that was in a awkward place to get to in room . This would be a problem if you were staying at the hotel for a wedding and having to hang outfits I feel ? The evening meal we had one or two issues with but breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice and quality food . Just feel the hotel needs a little bit of updating as has excellent potential. Overall a very enjoyable stay !

Disappointed holiday.

MD, South Yorkshire, stayed: September 2021

Dark room, 1 small sash window. Food very poor. No tarragon in tarragon sauce. My buerre blanc sauce split. Very expensive wines which were absolutely not worth the money. Found a pair of black knickers in our wardrobe, probably too dark for housekeeping staff to see them. Very dissatisfied with everything really. Mr Mark Dimaline.

5 night stay at the Bowden Hall hotel

Jean W, Devon, stayed: September 2021

My mother and I stayed for 5 nights. The restaurant food was very good especially the 3 course set meal which was excellent value for money. Breakfast fast was good too especially the large bowl of chopped fresh fruit every morning. Afternoon tea was delicious. On arrival we were greeted by Solveiga and Nathan, such a lovely double act. They oozed friendliness and humour. Also the tall slim dark haired lady in the restaurant (sorry I didn't get her name) possibly the restaurant manager was very kind and accommodating. Only 2 negatives, many stairs and no lift especially for my 84 year old mother. Also lovely big room but no wardrobe only a small piece of furniture for hanging a few things. Also a chest of drawers wouldn't go a miss. I did find myself living out of my suit case. Apart from that everything else was very good.

An enjoyable and great value stay in a country setting

Andrew M, Hampshire, stayed: October 2021

We spent three nights at Bowden Hall.
The staff we brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble to the extent that the maintenance manager and hotel manager helped me to charge my electric car each evening.
The gluten free selection was limited but the kitchen tried to create meals that were a GF variant on their normal fare.
The only downside was that our bathroom was overdue for refurbishment. It was functional but looked awful. Aside from this it was well located for Gloucester with some excellent walking parks.
