Lovely in a beautiful location

LW, Cheshire, stayed: May 2023

We stayed at The Swan for a long weekend in a 4 poster bedroom which was beautifully decorated, comfortable and spacious with a huge bath. We had a problem with the shower one morning - we couldn t turn it off - but this was resolved immediately.
The staff in the hotel and restaurant were lovely, friendly and very helpful. We had breakfast and dinner - limited dinner choice but what we had was good. The breakfasts were a little patchy-scrambled eggs appeared to be chopped boiled eggs - but the poached eggs were perfect! The smashed avo had chunks of garlic in which was unexpected for breakfast.
Parking was a bit of an issue one evening but it was Coronation weekend.

We would certainly like a return visit but a 2 night stay is not long enough in such an attractive area.

Lovely hotel, shame about the breakfast

MK, Surrey, stayed: November 2022

Terrible breakfast, poached egg like a bullet, scrambled eggs like sawdust, bacon so crisp it could be pork crackling and service so slow, thank goodness we had time to wait.
No offer of croissants or pastries, just cold toast.
For such a lovely place you really need to revise your breakfast menu, who wants "bowls",
Not many I'm sure.
My husband thought the porridge was horrible, what's the problem with ordinary muesli?

Breakfast

Anon, stayed: February 2023

In spite of the breakfast menu saying eggs could be served in all forms, an omelette was not available, which suggests that there was no chef involved with the menu. I don't remember seeing any fish mentioned either. One real pleasure of staying in a hotel is a breakfast one would not cook for oneself, but which could be cooked on request.
Otherwise we appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the comfort overall.

Very nice but no cigar!

Anon, stayed: November 2022

The hotel is very nice, immaculately clean throughout and looks newly decorated. A bit irritating to be asked on check in, in our case after a tiring 3 hour drive, where and what time we want every meal during our stay. The wait for the food in the dining room is excessive, over half an hour, and the portion sizes are meagre. When we raised the waiting point we were told all food is cooked to order so takes some time. With a dining room only a quarter full this simply won't wash. Also, the menu is the same every night. We only stayed 2 nights so it wasn't really a problem but a 4 night stay would be a different case. The full English breakfast was rather overcooked and unremarkable. How do you cook scrambled eggs to be completely tasteless and the consistency of sawdust? Having said all this, we enjoyed our stay and would come again. The food side of things wants looking at.

Cotswold Gem

Cliff, Dorset, stayed: November 2022

A warm welcome set the tone for a very relaxing 3-day stay. A clean, good sized room with a half bottle of bubbles and chocolates was a pleasant arrival treat. Bibury is a small village but full of typical Cotswold charm but like most villages of its kind can get quite busy, although late autumn is relatively quiet. For walkers, the area offers some decent routes, however, be aware, a route map available at the hotel is tricky to follow even for experienced walkers. The hotel has a comfortable, spacious bar and a peaceful reading room (complete with a lovely open fire). Overall, an enjoyable stay, just a couple of comments: parking is somewhat restricted and the bedroom pillows are somewhat firm , although housekeeping may be able to swap these to some a tad softer, apparently.

Enjoyable stay

GR, Warwickshire, stayed: August 2022

My husband & I enjoyed our stay at the Swan.
The good weather enabled us to use the riverside garden
which my husband particularly enjoyed - we also enjoyed
walking around the village.
The staff were very helpful and our bedroom comfortable
especially the bed. As 80Year olds we found the food
rather different but appreciate that this appeals to younger
guests.
