3 day break
The staff were wonderful
The restaurant had a limited dinner menu with no specials and no change.
The sticky toffee pudding had been microwaved and was like concrete.
Breakfast was excellent but no kippers.
The Hotel was overrun with tourists with no priority for residents.
Very small residents lounge.
Swan at Bibury
Restaurant was very expensive, with rather limited choices. Meal of 2 mains and one dessert including wine was around 150, less the 70 in the deal. Service at 10% was slapped on the whole restaurant bill, including the 70 credit. It was removed at our request on leaving.
We ordered an afternoon tea . We expected it to be the one included in the Offer. It turned out to cost 55 for the two of us. No-one explained the difference between a cream tea and an afternoon tea. However we were given a credit of 24 towards the overpriced offering.
Disappointing
Fan was broken but immediately replaced.
Restaurant service poor, plates not cleared, toast not offered on first day's breakfast. Restaurant staff seemed inexperienced.Warm bottled water served with dinner.Had to ask for ice. Unable to serve Irish Coffee due to lack of cream. Drinks too expensive.
Gate to private garden had a faulty lock and gave constant trouble.
Garden lovely. All staff polite but request for substitution of sandwich for one cream tea was argumentative.
Car parking not easy.
Enjoyable stay
Overall the hotel lived up to expectations but I have down rated the bar and restaurant as overall they were poor. Firstly the impression is more like a motorway service station in appearance rather than an up market bar and restaurant. Secondly the way the staff were organised left much to be desired. When you were allocated a table there was no one member of staff looking after you and as a result no one knew what you had asked for or what you were waiting for resulting in poor service. The quality of the evening meal was right up there where I expected it to be but the meals at breakfast were very poor quality, overcooked, elements cold and as a result we only had a cooked breakfast one of 3 mornings.
Birthday weekend?
A bit disappointing. COVID restrictions not really explained and found out from experience about lack of room servicing (making own bed, doing own washing up etc, a bit much at 215+ per night). Breakfast excellent with good service, but dinner disappointing with limited menu and haphazard service. The ambiance of the dining room was just absent, poor decoration and garish flooring did not fit with the gourmet approach they aspire to.
My wife s birthday went past entirely un-noticed and no effort was made to recognise it!
Girl on reception was very pleasant, as were some of the dining room staff but overall it didn t constitute a great experience!
Short break
We thought the room was on the small side. Checking in and out was awkward as they initially couldn t find our reservation and they were looking at the wrong sheet. Checking out they charged us for a meal which was included in our deal so good that we checked it carefully. We were charged rather a lot for tips but didn t change it.
A review of the Swan hotel
Due to a wedding taking place at the time, the hotel was extremely noisy (children running around the hotel) and lacking supervision. If you are wanting a quiet Weekend awaythis is not the place to visit.
Super location in Bibury but beds could be much better
Location in Bibury is excellent, a quintessential Cotswold village with loads of charm. Nice room and excellent bathroom, let down by the uncomfortable and very squeaky bed.
