A very relaxing stay in lovely surroundings
This is the second time we have stayed at The Bear and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The welcome was warm, the room was very comfortable and the restaurant food was excellent. We will definitely return.

Our location is fabulous for walking, even if everywhere seems to be uphill!
The golf course on the common is certainly unique, playing around the cattle and dog walkers adds an additional challenge.
Our staff work hard so it is good to know their hard work is appreciated.

Nice night away
Myself and my wife had a nice stay at the Bear, we would definitely be using off peak luxury again, we would also stay at the Bear in future.

Charming Country hotel
Myself, husband and our 2 year old daughter stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We had a lovely time. The hotel was a classic country hotel, decorated in country chic design. we stayed in a country house room which was a little smaller than expected but such a lovely room, well decorated with big soft towels and bathrobes. Super clean & I m fussy with cleanliness! The tea pig tea bags and luxury flavoured coffee bags paired with chocolates were extra special! The room was really cold but then we realised the radiator was off so we turned it in it was lovely and cosy. It had a beautiful view.
The reception staff were very helpful & friendly. The restaurant was excellent, we dined both evenings because the food was so good! The choux desert was to die for I had it both nights! The breakfast was fantastic with a buffet for delicious pastries and fresh fruit plus granola yoghurt glasses which were amazing. Then a lovely choice of cooked breakfasts. Our only negative would be that The evening restaurant waitresses could have been a little bit more helpful & friendly. Overall we had a fantastic stay at the bear, we don t understand how it s only a 3 star as we would rate this as a 4 star at least! It was such great value for money too. Thank you!

Our Country House rooms are indeed lovely rooms and most with a fabulous view, I am glad that the weather was favourable for you to make the most of them.
I am so pleased that you enjoyed the food here. Our desert chef does make exceeding nice deserts, we are always happy to help out when there are 'extras!'.
I have passed on your feedback about our evening staff, we are always looking for ways to improve, to make guests experiences even better.
