History of the hotel

As part of the Barony of Combe, The Manor House was very much the heart of the breathtaking medieval village of Castle Combe.

Originally built in the 14th century to replace a Norman Castle that had fallen into a state beyond repair, The Manor House had many Lords of the Manor. The most influential of which, is believed to be Sir John Falstaff who was immortalised by Shakespeare in Henry IV. The Barony of Combe continued for some 850 years until 1947 when The Manor House was sold and has sympathetically evolved to become a beautiful hotel, capturing the essence of it's historical charm.

A few days away

Wendy J, Hampshire, stayed: May 2019

Upon arrival at the hotel, the reception staff made us fell very welcome. There was no question of us struggling up three flights of stairs with our luggage that was taken care of for us. I enjoy a drink before dinner and Josh the bartender prepared the most superb Gin and Tonics. The food in the restaurant in the evening was beyond amazing. My husband is diabetic and the chef prepared a special dessert for him each evening of our stay. The lady (unfortunately cannot remember her name) who ran the restaurant at breakfast time was friendly, courteous and again nothing was too much trouble. This was without doubt one of the most fantastic UK breaks my husband and I have taken in many a year. We will certainly make a return visit.

Mixed Feelings

Anon, stayed: April 2019

We stayed at the Hotel before the Good Friday holiday and overall the staff couldn't be more helpful. They were very understaffed with many of them multi tasking. Not good for service, especially at Breakfast. Food was excellent. Room was great with stunning bathroom. One word of caution. Check that there is no Motor Racing meetings at nearby Castle Combe as it is very noisy and would spoil what should be a tranquil stay.
Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully with ample staff to support the great accommodation.

Perfect for a relaxed country break with great food

Alan, County Durham, stayed: April 2019

We enjoyed our stay very much. All of the staff we dealt with were great - the right blend of friendliness and professionalism. The hotel does not have the stuffy atmosphere of some top end places - it was very comfortable and relaxed with the kind of laid back feel we wanted. The food in the restaurant was exceptional, as you might expect from its Michelin Star.
Our room was really nice and very spacious and we have no complaints, just three comments. The furniture was a surprising mix, and not all of the same high standard. Perfectly functional but some of it uninspiring. It was in a cottage a short walk from the Hotel. I think we should have been told that when we booked as I had thought we were in the main building (I was recovering from an ankle operation).
Finally, the awful tea and coffee machine in the room spewed out undrinkable muck. Thankfully the lovely reception staff sent us over a good old fashioned kettle and some tea bags.
