History of the hotel

Rebuilt in the mid 19th century using Cotswold stone, Dumbleton Hall became home to the Eyres family and in the 1930′s the Hall was well known for its popular house parties with regular guests including John Betjeman, later to become Poet Laureate, and the popular Mitford sisters.

During the Second World War the Hall was allegedly considered as a suitable alternative venue for the House of Lords.

The Hall became a hotel in 1959.

Birthday Treat

Paul R, Hertfordshire, stayed: February 2020

Really loved this hotel almost miles from nowhere and attractive and comfortable.

Could not fault anything and The Cotswold Room was perfect (and big).

All the staff were excellent and a credit to the owners.

Romantic Break

RF, Leicestershire, stayed: December 2019

We booked this accommodation for a short break after Christmas. The hotel is set in a beautiful location and we enjoyed walking in the grounds, through the trees and watching the black swans on the lake. It is a car drive away from local places to visit.
The package we booked included dinner and breakfast, which were both very nice. It also included a free room upgrade (if available) and, although the room was lovely, we were disappointed that we didn't get the upgrade. The bathroom was spacious and seemed to be fairly newly installed.
We looked at other classic rooms and noted that there is a variety of room sizes so, if I came again, I would request specific rooms.
The staff were very busy with an anniversary celebration on the afternoon we arrived so the problem of no hot water took a while to sort out, but they did give us a free glass of wine with our meal as compensation for this. We were very happy with our stay.

Beautiful Location

JB, Leicestershire, stayed: November 2019

Characterful cosy hotel in beautiful countryside . Food was good, but breakfast was overcooked. Staff were polite, but needed more training to work at this type of hotel.

Wonderful, relaxing stay

DC, West Sussex, stayed: November 2019

My husband and I stayed at Dumbleton Hall for my birthday and it was wonderful. The staff were friendly, polite and professional. We stayed in the Malvern Suite which was extremely comfortable. The restaurant was very welcoming and the food was fabulous. It was excellent value for money and made my birthday special. We could not fault anything. Just wish we had stayed for more than 2 nights.

SH, Kent, stayed: October 2019

Beautiful grounds. Generally very helpful staff and very comfortable room. The breakfast arrangements were poor - not enough space (had to queue) and kitchen staff were poor. Such a contrast to the accommodation and dinner in the evening when food and service was excellent. The waiting staff in the dining rooms worked very hard and were excellent.

Almost Excellent but ...

Barry, Kent, stayed: October 2019

A few minor niggles knocked the gilt off the gingerbread.
a) The thermostat on the radiator didn't work. Maintainance were called in who claimed to have fixed the problem but the room temperature could not be controlled.
b) The shower was useless due to lack of pressure in our 2nd floor room. Management said that this was due to too many people using their shower at the same time. This, however, didn't tally with the normal water pressure at the Taps on the bath and was basin.
c) The sliding door of the wardrobe would not stay on the runners. Again maintenance said that they had fixed the problem, but hadn't.
d) Coffee machine provided but the sachets were not replaced after the first night. The c ould be purchased for 50p per sachet which seemed a bit of a penny-pinching arrangement.
e) The food, generally, was good although one of our party felt that both the fish and guinea fowl were overcooked.
f) On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the staff were all very friendly and efficient and the hotel is set in stunning grounds.
g) Would I go back - Yes, I probably would because, ultimately, it was very good value for money. I would hope that the tiny niggles could be remedied in the mean time.
