Nice room, overpriced restaurant
We got upgraded to a feature room, which was nice, very comfortable, but lacking in wardrobe and dresser space. The restaurant was good, but overpriced. Breakfast was bulk standard.
New booking system
I booked the Kings Head last year for 10 lady runners. The hotel is in a perfect location for all the activities I d planned for us.
When booking I was made aware 80 per room would be off set for food and drink so naturally we booked to eat in the hotel on the Friday. The booking was made in advance for 7:00pm. However when we arrived to be seated we were informed there was no booking for 10 people. It was explained that new software had been installed and not all bookings were transferred across. I felt desperately sorry for the young lady who had to deal with this situation. After a short while we were shown to our table but informed we were not able to eat in the restaurant on the Saturday due to a wedding taking place so we re offered the Bistro. The food was excellent in both restaurants, good to a very high standard. Despite the hiccup with the restaurant booking we all agreed we d definitely stay at the Kings Head again.
Staff at reception did not seem to understand the Offpeak Luxury booking with 80 allowance per room per day and tried to charge us the full price for our meal in the Brasserie in the evening. On our querying this she listed a 60 allowance, and on further querying, added an additional 20 generic allowance.
We were also disappointed to be offered a rather meagre continental breakfast whereas when we stayed there last February we received a full English breakfast.g
Excellent customer service from Joanna.
Cotswolds relaxation
The hotel is central in Cirencester, but still quiet at night . A comfortable room and bed. Only a very small lounge which was quite noisy in the evening being close to the bar . The dinner was good, but a long wait between each course, although we ate early and only a few people in the restaurant. Not a great day choice of starters or nibbles .I had the truffle honey fried chicken which was very odd and very sticky and it didn't specify it was chicken wings ..The main courses seemed very expensive for what they were and sides, too, were expensive. Then a service charge of 12.5 per cent added on which we thought was very high and only saw it was discretionary a(in very small print) , after we had paid ! The breakfast was very good with very good quality ingredients sourced locally we were told .
