Staff at reception did not seem to understand the Offpeak Luxury booking with 80 allowance per room per day and tried to charge us the full price for our meal in the Brasserie in the evening. On our querying this she listed a 60 allowance, and on further querying, added an additional 20 generic allowance.
We were also disappointed to be offered a rather meagre continental breakfast whereas when we stayed there last February we received a full English breakfast.g

Cotswolds relaxation

The hotel is central in Cirencester, but still quiet at night . A comfortable room and bed. Only a very small lounge which was quite noisy in the evening being close to the bar . The dinner was good, but a long wait between each course, although we ate early and only a few people in the restaurant. Not a great day choice of starters or nibbles .I had the truffle honey fried chicken which was very odd and very sticky and it didn't specify it was chicken wings ..The main courses seemed very expensive for what they were and sides, too, were expensive. Then a service charge of 12.5 per cent added on which we thought was very high and only saw it was discretionary a(in very small print) , after we had paid ! The breakfast was very good with very good quality ingredients sourced locally we were told .

Dear JN,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your comments on your recent stay. It was good to know that you found the room and bed comfortable, and that you particularly enjoyed the breakfast. We were sorry to hear, however, that there were some aspects of the dinner with which you were not totally satisfied and your feedback concerning the food has come at exactly the right time as we are just in the proceeds of reviewing the dinner menu. I have therefore forwarded your critique to the Head Chef for his genuine consideration. The service charge is pretty average and it is certainly not unusual for it to be included, but we are sorry if you felt obliged to pay it, as it is certainly optional.

I sincerely hope that, on balance, you enjoyed your stay and if you were ever to return, please do let me know personally as I would love to try and ensure an all-round better experience.

With best wishes,
Joanna

Nice hotel terrible food

Anon, stayed: March 2023

The room was beautiful very clean and comfortable. The spa was small but lovely I had an excellent facial and enjoyed the hot tubs.

Where the hotel let itself down was the food. For dinner we went to the MBB restaurant which was quite smoky due to the open kitchen. The starters we had were quite nice but the mains were terrible, I had a massively over salted piece of fish that was almost inedible and my partner had a low quality grisley steak and poorly cooked chips. The restaurant was hugely over priced particularly given the quality of the food. Breakfast wasn t much better as the ingredients were low quality and the hasbrowns were very oily and over cooked, services was also very slow and it took almost an hour to get our breakfast.

Overall I would only stay here again if food is not included and we could eat else where.

Dear Anon,

Thank you for your feedback after your recent stay and we are naturally delighted that you thought your room was beautiful and clean, and that you enjoyed your time in the spa.

It is therefore all the more disappointing that you were so unhappy with the food and I am currently investigating the comments that you have made as this is quite at odds with other reviews we have had (see below) and from other guests, both in person and online. We are not dismissing your experience because that is how you felt and we are taking it very seriously, but we will not accept that the ingredients are of low quality, as quite simply, they are not. Likewise, it would be most unusual, almost unprecedented, for the cooked breakfast to take an hour, which we agree would be unacceptable.

We are genuinely sorry that your stay was not wholly satisfying as that it is the complete antithesis of what we are endeavouring to achieve. We do hope that, despite this, you had an overall enjoyable visit to the Cotswolds.

With best wishes,
Joanna

Great Hotel for an Escape

Huw L, Somerset, stayed: March 2023

My wife and I needed some quality "down time". We booked a weekend at the Kings Head Hotel and it was a fabulous success. The room was quite ideal; the service outstanding and food for dinner and breakfast was 1st class. We could not recommend it more. Definitely a hotel to re-visit.
